Greenville, N.C. – On a wet night at Guy Smith Stadium, the Greenville Yard Gnomes held off a late push from the Wilson Tobs to secure a gritty 3-2 win. Holden Pantier led the offensive charge with two RBIs, while Jacob Boland dominated in relief to close the door.
Wilson (17-11) got on the board early in the top of the first, as Chase Waddell drove in Matthew Williams with a single up the middle.
Greenville (8-17) responded with a big third inning. Pantier delivered a two-run single to right field, scoring Joe Siervo and Nick Palmi. Moments later, John Kielber added a third run by stealing home, giving the Yard Gnomes a 3-1 lead.
The Tobs inched closer in the sixth when Waddell came home on a bases-loaded walk, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
That’s when Jacob Boland took over.
The Gnomes’ right-hander entered in the seventh and was lights out, retiring all nine batters he faced while racking up six strikeouts. Boland earned the win with three hitless, scoreless innings of work. Josh Wise was dealt the loss for Wilson, surrendering three earned runs over three innings.
