Greenville, N.C. – The Greenville Yard Gnomes dropped a tightly contested matchup to the Wilson Tobs on Tuesday night at Guy Smith Stadium, falling 4-1 in a game dominated by pitching and defense. Jose Sallorin and Jerry Barnes each drove in a run to lead the Tobs offensively.
Wilson (18-13) broke the scoreless tie in the third inning when Jakhari Howard successfully stole home to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Tobs added another run in the fourth when Carter Murphy drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0.
Greenville (11-20) answered in the fifth. Corey Berry crossed the plate on a groundout to cut the deficit in half, but the Gnomes couldn’t push across any more runs.
Wilson padded its lead in the ninth. Charlie Bussey scored on a Chase Waddell groundout, and Jack Kail followed by touching home on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to make it 4-1, sealing the win.
Ryan Harrahill earned the win for Wilson, tossing 4.2 innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out three. Quinn Holt was solid in the loss for Greenville, surrendering two earned runs on five hits over six innings of work.
