Wilmington, N.C. – The Greenville Yard Gnomes put together a complete performance Wednesday night, cruising past the Wilmington Sharks 10-2 at Legion Stadium. Corey Berry led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Ben Myers was outstanding on the mound tossing six scoreless innings.
Greenville (4-11) wasted no time getting on the board. In the top of the first, Berry delivered an RBI single to left center, bringing home Brody Gardner for an early 1-0 lead.
The Gnomes broke the game open in the second. Danny Ramirez and David Lillis each came around to score on wild pitches before Mason Self crossed home after a fielding error on a Brody Gardner grounder, giving Greenville a 4-0 cushion.
Howard extended the lead in the fifth with a two-run blast to left-center, scoring Berry. Jacob Green later drew a bases-loaded walk, allowing Ramirez to score and push the lead to 7-0.
In the eighth, Berry knocked in another run with a single to score Gardner, making it 8-0.
Wilmington (8-7) finally got on the board in the bottom of the eighth when Cam Gilkerson launched a two-run homer, scoring Cam Mitchem.
Greenville answered right back in the ninth. Ponce crushed a two-RBI double to deep left, plating Green and Gardner and sealing the 10-2 victory.
Ben Myers earned the win after tossing six hitless innings with zero runs allowed. Seth Edgerton took the loss for the Sharks, allowing three hits and four runs (three earned) in three innings.
