Greenville, N.C. – The Yard Gnomes rolled past the Morehead City Marlins on Saturday night behind a historic performance from Josh Mason, who launched three home runs to fuel a dominant offensive outing.
Morehead City (21-22) opened the scoring in the top of the first, as DJ Pacheco plated Jackson Tone with a single to right.
Greenville (18-25) wasted no time responding. In the bottom of the second, Mason crushed a two-run homer—his first of the season—bringing home David Lillis and giving the Gnomes a 2-1 lead.
The Gnomes added on in the third. Danny Ramirez launched a three-run shot to center, scoring Jesse Ponce and Joe Siervo to extend the lead to 5-1.
Mason stayed red hot in the sixth, hammering his second two-run homer of the game to left field. Later in the inning, Cam Rickabaugh scored on a fielding error, pushing the advantage to 8-1.
The Marlins scratched across one more run in the eighth on a fielder’s choice that brought home Gio Calamia.
Mason capped off his unforgettable night with a solo blast in the bottom of the eighth—his third home run of the game.
Eric Santaguida earned the win for Greenville, dealing six strong innings with seven strikeouts and just one earned run. Reid Bertram was charged with the loss for Morehead City, surrendering five runs on seven hits across five innings.
