Greenville, N.C. – The Greenville Yard Gnomes dominated the Greensboro Ducks, 17-5, Monday night in Guy Smith Stadium. An all-around offensive performance fueled the Gnomes to victory.

 

Greenville jumped out to a fast start, picking up a total of six runs in the first inning. Joe Whitaker and Collin Hughes scored early from a wild pitch. Kevin Wheeler also hit an RBI-single, bringing home Alex Ferrell. Corey Berry capped the inning with another RBI-single driving home Wheeler.

 

With a 6-0 lead early, the Gnomes never looked back, tacking on an additional eleven runs over the course of the of the next five innings. Ferrell notched three RBIs with three runs scored. Fuller Morrish, Will Applegate, and Kevin Wheeler also stepped up with two RBIs each to propel the Yard Gnomes to a victory.

 

Dan Bass picked up the win for Greenville, tossing 2.2 innings and only allowing one hit with five strikeouts. The Ducks Jack Gause receives the loss, lasting just one inning and allowing eight earned runs.

 

Up Next: Greenville hits the road Thursday to open the regular season against the Peninsula Pilots in Hampton, Virginia. The Yard Gnomes return to Guy Smith Stadium Friday night to host the Holly Springs Salamanders at 6:30 p.m.
