Wilson, N.C. – The Greenville Yard Gnomes fell to the Wilson Tobs in a shortened seven-inning contest, 14-4, on Thursday night. Logan Luckett and Chase Waddell led the way for the Tobs, each driving in three runs on two hits apiece.
Greenville (6-14) opened the scoring in the second inning when Danny Ramirez singled to bring home Corey Berry, giving the Gnomes a 1-0 lead.
Wilson (12-7) evened the score in the third after Carter Murphy’s RBI single plated Charlie Bussey.
The Gnomes briefly retook the lead in the fourth. Berry came home on a balk, and they added another run in the fifth when Berry grounded out, allowing Joe Whitaker to score and making it 3-1.
The Tobs answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth, plating three to jump ahead 4-3. Luckett tied the game with a two-RBI single to left and later scored on a wild pitch to give Wilson its first lead of the game.
Wilson blew the game open in the sixth, erupting for six runs. Jack Kail doubled in Bussey and Jakhari Howard, then scored on a groundout. Luckett and Christian Michak added two more runs, capitalizing on Greenville errors. Murphy capped the rally with another RBI to stretch the lead to 10-3.
Jesse Ponce scored in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to six, but the Tobs put the game out of reach in the bottom half, scoring four more to enact the mercy rule and secure the 14-4 win.
Everette earned the win for Wilson, tossing one inning and allowing just one run. Dan Bass took the loss for Greenville, giving up six runs (five earned) over 2.1 innings.
