Holly Springs, N.C. – The Greenville Yard Gnomes saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night, falling to the Holly Springs Salamanders, 10-3. Rom Kellis led the charge for Holly Springs, driving in four runs on three hits.
The Salamanders (14-15) wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first, Lukas Schramm plated Trenton Lyons with a single and later scored himself on a failed pickoff attempt.
Holly Springs broke things open in the third with a four-run inning. Kellis brought home Lyons with a base hit, Hudson Ellis stole home, Kellis came around to score on a sacrifice fly to left, and Schramm crossed the plate after a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.
An error by Greenville’s second baseman in the fourth allowed Kellis to score again, extending the lead to 7-0.
The Yard Gnomes (11-18) got on the board in the fifth when Danny Ramirez launched a solo homer. Corey Berry followed with an RBI single to score Luke Miller, trimming the deficit to 7-2.
Ramirez struck again in the seventh, blasting his second solo home run of the night.
However, the Salamanders put the game out of reach in the bottom half of the inning. Kellis delivered the final blow with a bases-clearing double, capping his four-RBI night.
Aden Knowles earned the win for Holly Springs, tossing five innings and allowing just two earned runs with three strikeouts. Eric Santaguida was tagged with the loss for Greenville, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits over two innings.
