Hampton, Va. – The Yard Gnomes were shut out by the Peninsula Pilots on Tuesday night at War Memorial Stadium, falling 11-0 in a run-rule loss through seven innings. Chris Martinez led the charge for the Pilots with three RBIs.
Greenville drops to 14-23 on the season and returns home for three of their final five games this week.
Peninsula (27-11) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Martinez drove in two with a single, and Grayson Fitzwater later scored on a David Stokely double to make it 3-0.
The Pilots added four more runs in the fourth. Stokely and Maddux Fleck each scored on bases-loaded walks, while Tyler Zedalis and Sammy Mummau came home on sacrifice flies to extend the lead to 7-0.
Four additional runs in the sixth inning sealed the deal for the Pilots, ending the game via run rule after seven innings.
Nate Miller earned the win for Peninsula, tossing four scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Braxton Vackar was charged with the loss for Greenville, allowing seven earned runs over 3.2 innings of work.
