It has been nearly 75 years since there was professional summer baseball in Greenville, NC, but that mark will end in 2024. The inaugural season for the Greenville Yard Gnomes, the 15th member of the Coastal Plain League (CPL), will commence on Thursday May 23rd, when the team opens on the road against the Tri-City Chili Peppers in Colonial Heights, Virginia. The hope opener will be the following night, May 24th, when the Chili Peppers make the return trip to Greenville.
In total, the Yard Gnomes will play 30 home games, with over 75% of them being played on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Greenville will have special games on May 27th (Memorial Day), June 16th (Father’s Day), and July 3rd (Independence Day Celebration).
Most of the games for the Yard Gnomes will be played against the CPL East Division, including five clashes against the runners-up from last season, the Wilmington Sharks. Greenville will play the Peninsula Pilots 12 times, the most of any opponent on the 2024schedule.
To wrap up the season, the Yard Gnomes will finish with 5 of the remaining 7 games at home, with the hopes of a playoff push down the stretch. The CPL Playoffs are from July 29th through August 3rd.
The 2024 CPL All-Star Game will be hosted by the Forest City Owls in Forest City, NC on Monday July 8th.
