Forest City, N.C. – The Greenville Yard Gnomes dropped to 0–4 on the season after a 7–5 loss to the Forest City Owls on Wednesday night. Frank Kelly led the charge for the Owls, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Greenville got off to a quick start in the top of the first. Brody Gardner scored on an RBI single from Danny Ramirez, who later came around to score on a misplayed ball to left off the bat of Jon Howard, giving the Gnomes an early 2–0 lead.
Forest City (3-1) answered right back in the bottom half. Luis Ramirez scored on a single from Kelly, who would then tie the game at 2–2 by scoring on a passed ball.
The Owls took control in the third inning. Cade Fuller drove in Kelly with an RBI single, and Malachi Gales followed with a triple that brought home Jaden James, pushing the lead to 4–2.
Forest City added three more in the fifth. Gales picked up his second RBI of the night with a single, and Gavin Gilmore followed with a two-run triple, scoring both Parker McDonald and Gales to make it 7–2.
The Gnomes battled back in the seventh. Joe Whitaker launched a two-run home run, scoring Gardner, and Jake D’Altrui crossed the plate on a Kevin Wheeler RBI single to cut the deficit to 7–5. Greenville later loaded the bases in the ninth but couldn’t capitalize.
David Finch earned the win for Forest City, tossing four innings while allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out four. Cooper Revels took the loss for the Yard Gnomes, giving up four runs (three earned) over two innings.
