Greenville, N.C. – The Greenville Yard Gnomes fell to the Tri-City Chili Peppers, 6-2, in a game that resumed four days after being suspended due to severe weather. Jordan Brown led the way for the Chili Peppers with two RBIs.
Greenville (11-20) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Nick Palmi dropped a looping single into the outfield to score Jacob Green.
Tri-City (11-21) responded in the third with a four-run frame. Alex Christie launched a no-doubt home run to give the Chili Peppers a 2-1 lead. Logan Janney added an RBI single to plate Collin Hughes, then came around to score himself on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.
Following weather delays, the game was suspended and resumed on Thursday.
Once play resumed, Corey Berry scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to cut the deficit to 4-2. However, the Chili Peppers extended their lead in the seventh. Evan Bouldin knocked in Macho Santiago with a single, and Julio Vasquez added a sacrifice fly to bring home Lucas Edwards, making it 6-2.
Sterling Austin shut down the Gnomes in the final frames to secure the win for Tri-City.
Evan Whitaker earned the win, tossing three innings and allowing just one earned run on three hits. Maddox Jones took the loss for Greenville, surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits over four innings.
Up Next: The Yard Gnomes and Chili Peppers square off again tonight in the second game of the doubleheader. First pitch is set for 6:45 p.m.
